It’s been quite some time I wrote something….I confess I was enjoying being lazy, not bad sometimes.
A lot has been happening around in past days. Blasts in Hyderabad, rapes, murders, Rail budget, Oscars, and now it will be union budget tomorrow. But I really don’t want to focus on any of these; a lot has been said and nothing substantial will be done.
I have been pondering from past few days
about Choices. We are presented with many in our lives and what we choose
decides the flow of our lives.
“Too
often in life, something happens and we blame other people for us not being
happy or satisfied or fulfilled. So the point is, we all have choices, and we
make the choice to accept people or situations or to not accept situations.”-
Tom Brady
We choose everything, right from soap,
shampoo, cosmetics to friends, love, education and yes, sometimes to live also. What our
present is, is the result of choices we had made in the past and our future will be
determined by the combination of past and present choices.
Our choices are influenced by a lot of
factors, our situations and circumstances, which many a times
lead to making decisions and choices unwillingly. That is where the sad part comes,
the part of blaming.
When things go right or as per our wishes,
we never complain. But when things go the wrong way, we tend to blame people,
situations or something or the other. The fact is we are solely and wholly responsible
for the choices we make. No matter how much we crib, how much we complain, its
only we who are to be blamed (I confess, I am no exception to it).
Many of us do crib a lot, that our life
sucks and there is nothing going right. We blame luck most of the times. I
remember a quote in this respect-
Fate might to a certain extent have a role to play, but in the end it is we who decide, it is we who choose. In this also we have a choice whether to listen to ourselves or to others. But when we make a choice, there is nothing we should regret about it later.
Taking responsibility is something we all run from and we always are looking for someone or the other to put all the blame upon, family, friends, fate, luck, God and what not. We can just find anything and everything to find an escape.
Our choices are what make a difference in our lives. We learn from them, we feel happy or sad because of them. We should therefore think properly and make the best possible out of all what is available to us. Sometimes we may have to take a different course from the usual prevalent norms, but when we choose to do that, we should always stand by it. Choices made thoughtfully and wisely may reduce the level of regret.
Here are some beautiful quotes on choices-
“In the end that was the choice you made, and it doesn't matter how hard it was to make it. It matters that you did.”- Cassandra Clare
“I won't tell you that the world matters nothing, or the world's voice, or the voice of society. They matter a good deal. They matter far too much. But there are moments when one has to choose between living one's own life, fully, entirely, completely—or dragging out some false, shallow, degrading existence that the world in its hypocrisy demands.- Oscar Wilde
“In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
“I
believe that we are solely responsible for our choices, and we have to accept
the consequences of every deed, word, and thought throughout our lifetime.”-
Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
“It is
our choices... that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”- J.K.
Rowling
“Every
person has free choice. Free to obey or disobey the Natural Laws. Your choice
determines the consequences. Nobody ever did, or ever will, escape the
consequences of his choices.”- Alfred A. Montapert
